Soap Opera Poster.
I haven't been able to go out and look for Soap Opera Posters but I have found a few online
This shows all the females within Hollyoaks.
The bright orange and yellows colours used in front of the black background makes the characters stand out which allows people to identify who they are.
The font that Hollyoaks use on Channel 4 when they advertise in the trailers/adverts is the same that they have used in this poster that was placed in Camden. The channel 4 logo has also been placed in the poster. Soaps do this as it allows people who do not watch Hollyoaks to be able to tune in as they were intrigued by the poster. The poster was placed in Camden where a lot of young people visit the Camden Market. As Hollyoaks's target audience is students, this is the perfect place for their poster to be shown as students will pass this poster and will tune into the episode. "A week that will change Hollyoaks forever." This is obviously hinting that something dramatic will happen in Hollyoaks, the end of a major storyline.
The purpose of a trailer
The purpose of a soap opera trailer is to advertise for coming special episodes and encourage viewers to watch the episode. Short trailers are normally used when the storyline has just reached it's climax and the trailer highlights key things that will be seen in the
episode. Normally, you have to be a regular viewer to understand the soap opera trailers however these soap opera trailers are very intriguing and may attract new viewers. This presents a great opportunity for soaps as they win either way. The soap opera trailers can also maintain the number of viewers for a soap as they keep the audience hooked onto the storyline. Soaps use specific trailers for Christmas for example. In soaps, major story lines normally end at Christmas so this is why soaps broadcast trailers leading up to the special Christmas Episode. Soap Opera trailers are also used when leading up to an event in a soap e.g Weddings, funerals, Christenings.
This trailer was used in Hollyoaks lading up the to the wedding of Mercedes and Riley. It has a catchy song and ark colours which would intrigue viewers to watch the special episode.
This trailer was used for Eastenders to re introduce a well known character back into the soup. The return of the character will probably spark up a new storyline in Eastenders.

Knowledge of Soaps
By creating a mindmap of Specific Knowledge of soaps it enabled me to note down all the existing information I knew about Soaps before conducting furhter research into soaps. This will help me with creating our soap as I will knwo what key conventions I would have to include in our soap opera trailer. For example, I would need to ensure that we have iconic places ewithin our soap, as these are recognised by viweers and can be what the soap is based around.
